One of life's most surprising pleasures is to taste the difference between an excellent coffee and an extraordinary one. As with fine wine, the profound complexity of coffee involves over a thousand flavor constituents that define its aroma, character and finish. Beginning around 1000 B.C, a pre-hispanic society known today as the San Agustin flourished in the Colombian mountains for over fifteen centuries. This early civilization was based solely on agriculture. The San Agustin peoples created inconceivable stone sculptures along with sarcophagi and tombs throughout this region of Colombia, thus the name El Alto de Los Idolos. Grown in lush, rich volcanic soil at an altitude of between1600 to 1900 meters, the coffee develops beans that are hard, dense, and possess exceptional coffee flavor. The cooler temperatures of the higher altitude slow the maturation process of the coffee cherries yielding higher levels of complex sugars and concentrated flavors. These attributes create a highly rated decaffeinated coffee with intense chocolate and dried fruit flavors complimented by a rich, smooth finish. Cupping Notes: The coffee has a peppery aroma, spicy with citrus and lemon notes. Flavors of chocolate and dried fruits. It's very sweet with a smooth body. Critical Acclaim: Rated 88 Points by an independent Q cupper panel. Q Cuppers are certified expert coffee tasters. The resulting selections are unique and rare. Each numbered box of coffee has been cultivated, transported, roasted and packaged according to stringent protocols and carries a tamper-proof seal of authenticity to ensure its inherent value.
