Inspired in one of the oldest pre-Inca civilizations, this beautiful mask is adorned with a diadem of handwoven textiles. The Tiahuanaco culture (200-300 A.D.) established itself on the present day border of Peru and Bolivia, on the edge of Lake Titicaca, which, located at 12,500 feet above sea level, is the highest navigable body of water in the world. Using a combination of recycled paper and plaster, Jaime Zapata Espinoza explores his profound Peruvian roots, finding the spell for giving life to such elements - transforming them into a vibrant celebration of a glorious past.
