Jaime Zapata finds inspiration in the art and traditions of the Chancay people for the design of this mask. Representing a woman, the mask's face is yellow with a band of diamond patterns across the eyes. She is wearing the traditional jute headdress, woven on a hand-loom. The Chancay culture, dated 1100-1430 A.D., flourished in Peru's central coast and is renowned for its innovations in construction, ceramics, textiles and wood carving.
